New coronavirus restrictions in Austria have forced the Racketlon Federation of Austria to change the GRAWE sidebyside 14. Austrian Open – Super World Tour Finals, creating a truly unique Racketlon event.
The tournament will now be restricted to just elite categories with small but high-quality draws. No amateur categories will be able to take place due to the coronavirus restrictions. All players and helpers will be subject to routine coronavirus testing while inside the bubble.
The whole tournament will be live-streamed and available to watch online around the world and both the RFA and FIR will provide extensive coverage of this special event.
Statement from Tournament Director Marcel Weigl
Here is information about the changes from Technical Director & COVID-19 Representative and President of the RFA Marcel Weigl.
RFA, in accordance with the FIR, will organise a unique Racketlon event. We will create a Corona-Bubble with worldwide live stream with English commentary available for all to watch for free at the GRAWE sidebyside 14. Austrian Open – Super World Tour Finals from 20th-22nd November in Graz, Austria.
The tournament will also see the sensational return of Racketlon legend, Hall of Famer and multiple world champion, Magnus Eliasson.
Players are only able to enter one category each. The categories are Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
In accordance with Austrian coronavirus restrictions for professional tournaments, the maximum singles draw is eight players and the maximum doubles and mixed doubles draw is four pairs.
Players from each draw must stay in their own bubble (both at the hotel and the venue) and not mix with any of the other players from the other draws.
Any elite player who would like to be part of this incredibly exciting tournament should email Marcel Weigl directly at weigl@racketlon.net.
Austria will also host the World Singles, Doubles and Team Championships in August 2021. Full information about that announcement can be found here.
