Nathalie Vogel and Joerg Kanonenberg win IWT German Open titles

Two titles to Germany on home soil as Vogel and Kanonenberg win the IWT German Open titles. Three great days of Racketlon, let’s see how they won their titles.

Vogel claims first title of the season

Both Vogel and Altmann won all their group matches, where Silke Altmann played a strong match against Pauline Cavé taking it +9 (8-21 21-13 21-4 10-13). She went on to beat Kaptein +20 (10-21 21-11 21-6 8-2) to secure her place in the final. Vogel won both her group matches beating Adeline Kilchenmann +40 (21-4 21-14 21-5) and Alina Reissenauer +33 (21-6 21-12 21-12).

Nathalie Vogel went on to claim her first title of the season today, beating Silke Altmann in the final by +29 (21-18 21-2 21-14). Pauline  Cavé beat Alina Reissenaur + 25 (21-3 21-10 17-21) to claim the bronze medal.

Women’s Draw

Joerg Kanonenberg wins second title of the season

Another good tournament for Joerg Kanonenberg. He beat Mandrin Mouchet +27 (21-13 21-15 21-8) in the quarter-finals, before going on to beat Adarsh Vikram Narayanaswamy, who took out top seed Nicolas Lenngenhager in his quarter final by +18 (15-21 21-14 21-16 16-4). Narayanaswamy took a small lead in table-tennis 21-19, and badminton 21-16 before Kanonenberg managed to change the momentum, taking squash 21-12 and tennis 21-13 to win the match +10 (19-21 16-21 21-12 21-13).

His opponent in the final was fellow teammember and wildcard Thorsten Lentfer, who beat Oliver Bühler [4] +11 (21-8 16-21 21-12 5-11) in the quarter-finals and Patrick Oettl +20 (21-6 17-21 21-12 2-2) in the semi-finals. It was Kanonenberg who was the stronger player in the final, taking the match +11 (7-21 21-14 21-12 21-12) to claim his second IWT singles title. Adarsh Vikram Narayanaswamy beat Oettl for bronze, taking the match +10 (21-12 21-14 19-21 8-12).

Men’s Draw

Open titles for – Branke, Zahn, Pfeiffer, and Akdag

Tom Branke is the men’s B Champion after taking out top seed Andreas Kotala +23 (18-21 21-15 21-14 21-8) in the semi-finals, and Bertrand Carlier (2) +22 (12-21 21-14 21-4 7-0) in the final. Andreas Kotala beat Marco Schmitt +17 (7-21 21-9 21-2 5-5) to claim bronze. Up and coming player Ylvie Zahn took the women’s B title, winning both her group matches. She had a close match against silver medallist Carola Von Heimburg taking it +6 (18-21 20-22 13-21 21-2). Rebecca Bäuerle finished third.

Michael Pfeiffer won the men’s C title, beating Tobias Vogelsang +18 (21-12 21-15 9-21 19-4). Jan Vogel finished third. The First Timers women’s title went to Ylvie Zahn who won all her group matches. Weiling Hu finished second and Sabrina Wamsler finished third. The men’s first timers title went to Resat Akdag, as he beat Ashwatha Shetty Katkere +23 (21-1 12-21 21-9) in the final. Romain Henry finished third.

Junior and Senior titles for – Volf, Van De Burgt, Kaptein

Volf claimed the U21 title as he won all his group matches. He beat silver medallist Andreas Kotala +21 (21-14 21-18 21-10 1-1) and bronze medallist Bastian Bohm +9 (21-18 17-21 21-10 12-13).

Guus van de Burgt had a good win over Rafal Szlazak in the semi-finals, taking it +12 (15-21 21-14 21-18 18-10). He then won the seniors +40 title after Martin Sopko unfortunately had to retire in the final. Giovanni Gentile won bronze. Kirsten Kaptein added another women’s +40 title to her collection as she won both her group matches. Adeline Kilchenmann finished second and Carola von Heimburg finished third. The +50 title went to Rafal Szlazak as he won all his group matches. Dirk Skock finished second and Marc Langholz finished third.

Ulrich Schlepphorst won the seniors +55 after beating Volker Sach +14 (7-21 21-12 21-11 17-8) in the final. Giovanni Gentile finished third, beating Steffen Kleebach +9 (21-19 25-23 21-5 10-21).
