Sákovics makes first SWT final in Prague

Virág Sákovics has made the first SWT final of her career here in Prague, after she beat world no 2 Kirsten Kaptein in a big battle. Earlier that day she beat EuroGames Champion Ettenauer, and continued her good form in the semi-finals. Kaptein won table-tennis 8-21, but Sákovics edged badminton 22-20. She also won squash 21-8, which gave her a two point lead going into tennis. Sákovics proved to be the better tennis player, after a close first half she started to pull away and held her nerve, taking the match 21-15 with an overall score of +8 (8-21 22-20 21-8 21-15).

No 2 seed Joyce Chan is in another final this year, after she beat Clarissa Steiner +36 (21-16 21-4 21-7) and Lucie Hlavacova +38 (21-10 21-5 21-10). The final takes place at 10:00 GMT +2 and is live on our YouTube page.

In the men’s draw, Koen Hageraats extended his unbeaten streak over world no 1 Sylvain Ternon as he beat the Frenchman +6 (21-5 2-21 21-6 10-16) in the quarter-finals. He plays Joerg Kanonenberg in the semi-finals, in a repeat of their Polish Open final which went to the German. Kanonenberg had a tough battle against home favourite Martin Sopko, which he managed to win +4 (17-21 21-18 14-21 21-9).

On the bottom half of the draw, Bastian Böhm is in his first SWT semi-finals of his career after beating Michal Horácek +7 (21-17 21-14 8-21 21-12). He plays the defending Champion Leon Griffiths. Griffiths had a tough start against Kevin Ng in his first round match, with the Hong Kong player taking table tennis 18-21 and pushing Griffiths in badminton taking 22 points. The overall score was +14 (18-21 24-22 21-9 11-8).

Griffiths faced Hedlund in his quarter-final after Hedlund won a big battle against Kurek [8] by +4 (21-2 11-21 16-21 19-18). As expected Hedlund took table tennis 21-9 against Griffiths but the British player never looked back after that. He won +18 (9-21 21-6 21-9 7-4) and faces Böhm in the semi-finals. The semi-finals kick off at 11:00 (GMT+2).
