The IWT Norwegian Open Champions were crowned this weekend in two contrasting finals.
Anna-Klara Ahlmer secured her top spot in the FIR Race, as she claimed her 17th title this weekend. She beat silver medalist Kirsten Kaptein +29 (21-16 21-7 21-11) in her last group match. Kirsten Atkinson defeated Victoria T for bronze, taking the match +19 (21-10 11-21 21-4 4-3) in her first women’s elite draw appearance.
Kresten Hougaard won in an incredibly close final against Matt Davidson. Davidson caused quite an upset in the earlier rounds, defeating no 1 seed Lindberg +18 (18-21 21-10 21-12 5-4). He continued his good run, taking out the 4th seed Noah Mamié in the semi-finals with a +6 (21-18 17-21 21-10 12-16) win.
Hougaard got the better of Kevin Ng in a very close quarter-final battle which he took by +6 (18-21 18-21 21-9 16-16), before taking on Joerg Kanonenberg in the semi-finals. Hougaard has been playing very well and it showed again, as he beat Kanonbenberg +20 (21-7 26-28 21-13 2-2).
The final could not have been any closer. Hougaard took table tennis 21-10, Davidson levelled the score taking badminton 21-10 as well. Squash went point for point, with Hougaard just taking the win 21-19. Tennis was just the same. Both players got to match point but it was Hougaard in the end who managed to win the match +4 (21-10 10-21 21-19 24-22) to claim his second title in two weeks.
Open titles for – Moran, Frozkhan, Bäckström/Edby, Frozkhan/Moran, Eriksson and
Patrick Moran won the men’s B title after he beat Viktor Olivemark +13 (21-5 21-9 5-21 10-9) in the final. Magnus Edby finished third after he defeated Christofer Hellberg +11 (21-13 22-20 22-20 10-11). Saga Frozkhan won the women’s B title. She beat Martine Torp +20 (21-19 21-12 21-17 7-2) in the final. Tiril Platzack finished third.
Bäckström/Edby claimed the men’s B doubles title with a +42 (21-4 21-9 21-8) victory over Luther/Westgaard. Gupta/Hoclk-Hansen took the bronze medal. Frozkhan/Moran claimed two gold medals this weekend, as they also won the mixed B title together. They beat Atkinson/Durston +7 (16-21 12-21 21-16 21-5). Torp/Wetgaard finished third.
The First timers title went to Eriksson after he got the better of Grunte in the final. He took the match +28 (21-3 21-8 18-21). By finished third. Greg Lorkiewicz claimed the +40 title after he won a close final against Viktor Olivemark. The score was +6 (21-14 21-14 8-21 21-16). Hakansson won the bronze medal, beating Holck-Hansen +21 (21-17 18-21 21-5 5-1).
