Hougaard and Vogel win IWT Racket Masters Augsburg

A 22nd overall title for Vogel and a fifth IWT singles victory for Hougaard.

Hougaard put in three strong performances to reach the final, winning all his matches before tennis. He beat no 2 seed Mandrin Mouchet +24 (21-7 16-21 21-6) in the semi-finals to face top seed Simon Vaclahovsky in the final.

Vaclahovsky beat Leonhard Prager +9 (13-21 21-18 21-3 9-13) in the quarter-finals, and Duncan Stahl +21 (20-22 21-8 21-11 1-1) in the semi-finals. Vaclahovsky and Hougaard had played twice, both taking one win each. Their last matchup went to Hougaard at the SWT Austrian Open in November last year.

Hougaard was the stronger player in the final, taking table tennis and badminton 21-12 and 21-10. Vaclahovsky took squash 21-11, which meant that Hougaard needed 12 points in tennis to win the match. He took tennis 12-7 and the match +15 (21-12 21-10 11-21 12-7) to win his fifth IWT title and first title since 2019!

Nathalie Vogel won her 22nd title of her career yesterday which is a great achievement! She beat bronze medalist Katherine Serrano +21 (9-21 21-6 21-6 4-1) and had a tough battle against Silke Altmann, which she took +9 (18-21 21-12 23-25 21-16). Altmann beat Serrano +21 (15-21 21-6 21-14 6-1) to claim the silver medal.

Open titles for – Carlier, von Heimburg, Vogel, Schwenk, Vötter, Prager and Lesser

Bertrand Carlier added another title to his collection, winning the men’s B final against Andreas Kotala by +3 (21-9 20-22 19-21 14-19). Tobias Vogelsang finished third. Von Heimburg won the women’s B, three weeks after winning the +60 at the World Championships. She defeated silver medalist Vancuríková +14 (20-22 22-20 21-13 14-8) and bronze medalist T +27 (21-8 21-15 21-13).

The Men’s C title went to Jan Vogel, who beat Alexander Kaess +5 (8-21 21-11 21-16 21-18). Yann Leutwiler finished third. Michael Schwenk won the First timers category, beating Alexander Schmelzle +27 (21-2 14-21 21-6). Sebastian Birk beat Rudolf Heufelder +21 (21-0 3-21 21-18 21-6) for bronze.

Vötter claimed the women’s first timers title beating silver medalist Lara Altmann +22 (21-2 21-19 19-21 4-0). Laura Schorer finished third. Leonhard Prager took the U21 title, beating Bastian Böhm +19 (21-12 21-10 18-21 5-3) in the semi-finals and Cornelius Ried +15 (20-22 21-16 21-12 10-7) in the final. Bastian Böhm finished third, beating Andreas Kotala +5 (21-10 17-21 21-18 12-17).

Keith Lesser claimed the +40 title, beating Matthias Windbacher +12 (21-8 12-21 21-12 9-10). Bertrand Carlier finished third.
