IWT Racket Masters Augsburg – preview

We’re getting ready for the next tournament of the season: the IWT Racket Masters Augsburg! World no 7 Simon Vaclahovsky is the top seed for the men as he tries to win his first IWT title on home soil. He takes on either Prager or Pichler in his first match. The U21 silver medalist at the World Championships and 3/4 seed Bastian Böhm takes on Patrick Oettl in his first match. The winner will take on Neumann or Stahl in the quarter-final.

On the bottom half of the draw, world no 9 Kresten Hougaard (3/4) plays Michał Kurek. The winner plays either Mühlberger or Singh in the quarter-final. The last round 1 match is between Windbacher and Lesser. The winner plays no 2 seed Mandrin Mouchet.

The women are playing in a round robin, with a rematch of the World Championships semi-final between Vogel and Fischer. Before they face each other, they will play last year’s bronze medalist Silke Altmann, and Spain’s Katherine Serrano. Serrano made her International Racketlon debut at the World Championships where she finished 6th in the women’s B. This will be a great experience for her to play the top players.

The tournament starts on Friday with the mixed doubles. Fischer/Hougaard are the top seeds in a round robin draw. They play their first match against Altmann/Bohm before playing against Serrano/Windbacher.

The men’s doubles sees top seeds Oettl/Vaclahovsky try and claim the title. They play their first match against the winner between Heufelder/Singh and Kurek/Lesser. Hougaard/Stahl are a dangerous pairing, taking on second seeds Pichler/Prager in their first round. They play for a spot in the quarter-final against either Altmann/Fischer or Bohm/Neumann.
