Enjoyed watching the GRAWE sidebyside 14. Austrian Open this weekend? The good news is that next year you could be in Austria competing in the 18th FIR Racketlon World Championships.
After the World Championships were cancelled in 2020, they return in 2021 with a 10-day tournament in Vienna and Graz. The tournament – which features the World Championships for Singles, Doubles and Teams – will take place from the 20th to 29th August.
Austria has a rich history of hosting fantastic World and European Championships -most recently in 2017 – and 2021 is set to be the biggest and best yet. With a budget of 100,000 euros secured by Racketlon Federation Austria, this is a hugely exciting tournament. We’re extremely hopeful that we’ll be able to return to normal in 2021. This means categories for players of all ages and abilities meaning that entry is available for everyone.
Collaborative plans have already been made with the FIR about an ambitious 8-month social media campaign in the build-up to the tournament and also a separate, stand-alone marketing campaign aimed purely at attracting brand-new players to the sport.
Vienna & Graz to host Racketlon World Championships in 2021
So how is the tournament going to take place across two cities?
The Juniors and Seniors events will take place first, from Friday 20th to Monday 23rd August in Vienna. This includes all Singles, Doubles and Team events and will see the FIR World Tour return to Tennispoint Vienna.
Tuesday, 24th August will be a rest and travel day as the World Championships then moves to Graz.
This is where the Elite and Amateur Singles, Doubles and Team competition will take place from Wednesday 25th August to Sunday 29th August. Racket Sport Centre Graz, home of the GRAWE sidebyside 14. Austrian Open, will host the second half of the Racketlon World Championships.
No information is currently available about accommodation but we will update you when more become available. If you wish to book flights to the tournament we would recommend ensuring that they can be refunded should the tournament not be able to go ahead due to COVID-19.
You’ll be seeing more and more information about the tournament from January as we look to make this the biggest and best racketlon tournament in history.
