Stine Jacobsen & Kresten Hougaard have won the Mixed Doubles title in the Polish Open SWT. It is Jacobsen’s 7th elite mixed title and Hougaard’s 9th, but their first title together.
The Danes were dominant from the start, defeating British pair Holly Ranson & Anant Gupta by 19 points and British/German combination Mollie Patterson & Bastian Böhm by 17.
Meanwhile, top seeds Stephanie Chung & Joerg Kanonenberg won their opening two matches before tennis. The American/German team defeated Poles Dominika Patrzek & Tiger Sowa by 36 and Czechs Lucie Hlavacova & Matěj Volf by 23.

But that’s where the top seeds’ domination stopped. Stine & Kresten were able to win the first 3 sports and only needed 1 point in tennis. The odds were stacked against them, but Steph & Joerg never gave up. But the Danes won the match on the second point in tennis. Final scores: +21 (21-13, 21-19, 21-10 1-1.)
The scoreline doesn’t reflect how close the match could have been. Chung & Kanonenberg are both tennis players and would’ve likely made life difficult for the Danes, had they required a few more points in tennis.
“It feels good,” Kresten Hougaard said after the match. “We weren’t happy with the badminton in the final, they made it difficult.”
He was full of praise for the determination of his opponents. “Jörg was running and running and running. He saw all corners of the squash court many times.”
Men’s Doubles
Kresten Hougaard has the opportunity to win a second elite title this morning, when he and World Number 1 Leon Griffiths play against Germans Bastian Böhm & Joerg Kanonenberg. Both pairs have been ruthless so far.
The Men’s Doubles final will be played at 9:40 AM Polish time.

Women’s Doubles
Similarly, Stine Jacobsen is playing in the Women’s Doubles final with British junior Holly Ranson. They will play Stephanie Chung & Kirsten Kaptein, who were made to work hard in their semi-final against Brits Kirsten Atkinson & Mollie Patterson. Trailing by one point before tennis, the top seeds won 21-12 to keep their hopes alive.
Patrick Moran, speculated about his compatriot’s chances. “Steph might go 0/2 in the dubs finals! She’s the silver queen!”
The Women’s Doubles final will be played at 9:20 AM Polish time.
