We’re getting ready for the 17th edition of the Swiss Open this weekend. Sylvain Ternon will be looking to retain his title whilst Anna-Klara Ahlmer will be looking to stay undefeated in the women’s singles so far this season.
World no 1 Anna-Klara Ahlmer is the top seed for this event and receives a bye in the first round. She will play either Fabienne Dony or Pauline Cavé. If Cavé we could see a repeat of the IWT Nordic Racket Games final last month. No 2 seed Kirsten Kaptein will play Adeline Kilchenmann in her first match, and she is leading 5-2 in their head-to-head. World no 6 Stephanie Chung will play doubles partner and junior world no 1 Holly Ranson for a place in the semi-finals.
World no 2 and last year’s Champion Sylvain Ternon will play Michal Kurek in his first round. If he wins his potential semi-final opponents will be the winner between Patrick Oettl and Noah Mamié. Wildcard Yannic Andrey will play junior world no 2 Bastian Böhm, whilst no 2 seed Nicolas Lenggenhager plays the other wildcard Thomas Cavé.
Doubles preview
The first day of the tournament will be the doubles day as usual and we can expect some exciting matches. Roland Pichler and Matěj Volf are the top seeds and play German duo Patrick Oettl and Tobias Vogelsang. No 2 seeds Carlier/Kurek play Andrey/Böhm for a place in the final.
The women’s doubles is played in a round robin where Ahlmer/Cavé are looking like the strong favourites for the title. Their first match is against Chung/Ranson before they take on Dony/Kilchenmann.
Chung/Lenggenhager are the top seeds in the mixed doubles. They play the winner between British duo Ranson/Gupta and Dony/Andrey. On the other side of the draw, second seeds Ahlmer/Böhm face the Cavé siblings whilst Kaptein/Mamié take on Kilchenmann/Kurek in their first match.
