Not the only tournament that is going on this weekend, as the 2024 Nordic Racket Games is also taking place this year. Leon Griffiths has the opportunity to defend his title whilst also trying to win back his no 1 position on the rankings. Last year’s women’s winner Natalie Vogel is not playing this year so there will be a new name on the title.
Battle for the No 1 position
Leon comes in as the no 1 seed in a strong 32 player draw, whilst newly crowned world no 1 Sylvain Ternon comes in as the no 2 seed. (The draw was made based on the April Rankings). All top 8 seeds receive a bye in the first round and will battle for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
Leon Griffiths will take on the winner between Mamie and Tay, and if all goes to seeding he will play Lindberg in the quarter-finals if he battles past the winner between Lentfer and Harca.
Frenchman Mandrin Mouchet is the seventh seed and will play the winner between a very exciting first match up; Oldehaver vs Ng. Fourth seed Lenggenhager plays the winner between Kurek and Pennanen.
World Champion Luke Griffiths [3] plays the winner between Radermacher and Thyregod, before a possible rematch of the IWT La Santa Open against Henrik Mustonen, in which the British player produced some outstanding squash to beat the former PSA #30.
Home hope Hougaard plays the winner between Koubaa and Hedlund, whilst Ternon takes on the winner between Pichler and Stahl.
All first-round matches will take place from Saturday 9AM (GMT+2).
Ahlmer looks to continue winning streak.
Anna-Klara Ahlmer is coming in as the top seed for this event and will be looking to continue her winning streak. She plays the winner of Parslow and Kostianen, as the world no 19 and 18 will battle it out for a place in the Quarter-Finals.
Hong Kong Open Champion Joyce Chan is the no 3 seed and will take on the winner between Ettenauer and Fischer. If she plays Fischer this will be a repeat of the Australian Open final earlier this year where Fischer claimed the title.
Fourth seed Kilchenmann takes on the winner between youngsters Pye and Steiner, whilst Cave and Anttila will battle for a place in the quarter-finals to see who will face second seed Kaptein.
The first-round matches start at 11:40am (GMT+2) on Saturday.
