We are just two days away from the 2024 FIR Racketlon World Championships and we cannot wait to get started!
Potential Champions quarter-final clash in the men’s elite
In a repeat of last year, Luke and Leon Griffiths enter as the top seeds and reigning champions, eyeing a third consecutive World Championships title. Yet, their path to victory does not come easy as they might face four-time champions Ratzer/Jonsson who are back in action on home soil this year. Ratzer/Jonsson have received the wildcard and are playing Kurek/Tay who also received the wildcard.
The Mamié brothers are facing Bürgi/Pichler in their first round to determine who will face the no 4 seeds Oldehaver/Thyregod. Oldehaver/Thyregod finished fourth last year and will be aiming for a podium place.
Last year’s finalists and 2019 Champions Hougaard/Jaksland are the no 3 seeds and are playing the winner between Kainulainen/Mustonen and Pennanen/Penttinen in a battle of the Finns. Pennanen/Penttinen are the slight favourites for this match as they are leading 2-0 in the head-to-head.
German duo Radermacher/Wiessner are taking on Hong Kong Open Champions and last year’s men’s B Champions Ng/Cheng in their first match. The winner will play second seeds and French Open Champions Lenggenhager/Lindberg.
Ahlmer and Fischer aiming for their first Women’s World Championships Doubles title
Amke Fischer came close to clinching her first World Doubles title last year as she and Natalie Paul just fell short to 2023 Champions Bramhall/Jacobsen losing +8 (21-18 18-21 21-12 13-14) in the final. Ahlmer was paired with Enmer who also lost in an incredible close semi-final to the eventual winners and finished fourth.
This year, Ahlmer and Fischer are playing together and seem strong contenders for the title. The defending Champions aren’t playing this year which means there will be new names added to the list.
French Open Champions Kaptein/Cavé are top seeds and a new pairing, which was successful last month as they defeated their first-round opponents Dony/Kilchenmann to claim the title. The winner of this match will play the winner between Anttila/Koskinen and Kosonen/Kostiainen.
British duo Parslow/Thaker will take on Chan/Pye for a place in the semi-finals in what will be one of the matches to look out for on day one. Second seeds Ahlmer/Fischer play Mai/Mika to kick off their 2024 World Championships campaign.
Griffiths brothers to fight for the title
With Luke winning the 2023 Mixed Doubles title with Myriam Enmer and Leon winning the 2022 Mixed Doubles title with Zuzana Severinová, both brothers will be looking for a second World Title, with different partners.
Luke Griffiths is teaming up with Anna-Klara Ahlmer, who finished third with Thyregod last year. They play Kilchenmann/Mamié in their first match. Jesper Ratzer is playing with his daughter Scarlett and they have received the wildcard for this event. They will take on Cavé/Mustonen.
Last year’s B Champions Chan/Ng take on Ettenauer/Pichler in their first round, whilst Dony/Radermacher will take on Fischer/Griffiths.
