The first ever tournament in Australia has come to an end, and we’ve seen some great matches over the weekend. A lot of Racketlon, smiles and some rain. Let’s see what happened on day 3.
A first elite singles title for Wiggin
After rain interrupted the last semi-final yesterday, Wiggin managed to stay focused this morning and take the match +3 (8-21 6-21 21-3 21-8). He was now set to play Duncan Stahl in the final, a first meetingBetween the pair and an exciting one. Stahl got off to a great start, taking table tennis 21-5 and he stayed ahead in badminton taking it 21-17, going into squash with a +20 lead. Wiggin bounced back, taking squash 21-6, leaving a +5 lead for Stahl. Wiggin stormed ahead in tennis, taking the game 21-9 and the match +7 to claim his first title. The overall score was +7 (5-21 17-21 21-6 21-9).
After the match Wiggin said that he was over the moon to win the title “It’s unreal it’s my first international trophy in singles so it means a lot to me especially as it’s the closest international event to home… I’d say the squash swayed it in my direction. I know how good of a squash player Duncan can be, and if I got anything under 10 in squash that feel like a good result so 21-6 was a good result. Definitely the squash gave me a lot of confidence going into tennis and I was pretty happy with how I played my tennis.”

After finishing second in Mumbai late last season, Amke Fischer is on top of the podium once again, beating Joyce Chan in an entertaining final. Fischer put herself ahead, taking table tennis 21-17, before Chan created a lead for herself taking badminton 21-8. Fischer bounced back in squash, taking it 21-11 giving her a +1 lead going into tennis. Fischer stormed ahead taking tennis 21-6 and the match +16 (21-17 8-21 21-11 21-6). This is Amke’s thirteenth title on the IWT tour.
