CHA Hong Kong Open preview

We’re in Hong Kong this weekend where Racketlon Hong Kong will host their first-ever World Tour event and we couldn’t be more excited. Quite a few new tournaments are popping up which is great to see for Racketlon fans and players all over the world.

It’s a busy schedule in Hong Kong, with a lot of local interest and a good chance for the growing Hong Kong Racketlon community to get a taste of the International Racketlon circuit.

Chung looking for first elite singles title

America’s Stephanie Chung has been training in Hong Kong for the past few weeks and is ready for the Hong Kong Open. Having a stellar first season on the IWT Tour, Chung now sits in the world’s top 10 and is looking for her first singles elite title. She will play her first match on Saturday in group A against Wan Yin Lui before taking on Ho Ching Chan.

Joyce Chan is the second seed and she will look to claim another elite singles title after winning the Thailand Open Challenger last year. She plays her first match against Nienke Veldkamp from the Netherlands before taking on Ho Suet Ying.

Mouchet and Sands top seeds in the men’s elite

World no 10 Mandrin Mouchet is the top seed for the Hong Kong Open Challenger and will be looking for another podium appearance after making the semi-finals in Thailand earlier in January. He will kick off his title campaign against Bridge Yan Kiu Lam. Home favourite Kevin Ng is in good form after making the final of the Thailand Open Challenger and will be looking to claim his first elite singles title on home soil. He will face Sathid Sujittapiban.

Frank Kleiber is the third seed for this event and will play his first match against Clement Hung from Singapore, whilst second seed Leigh Sands will play his first IWT tournament in a year against tournament organiser Steven Cheng.

Men’s elite

Home favourites are top seeds in the doubles events

Men’s B World Champions Cheng/Ng are the top seeds and home favourites for the men’s doubles event. They play their first match against fellow countrymen Bridge Yan Kiu Lam and Bryan Leung. Austrian duo Urban/Windbacher are the second seeds for this event and will take on Chu Him Ho and Mandrin Mouchet in their first match.

Hong Kong’s Chan/Wong are top seeds for the women’s doubles and receive a bye in the first round. They await the winner of Lee/Lui and Cheung/Ho. Phanouvong/Veldkamp are the second seeds for the event and they will play Chim/Ying in their first match.

Mixed B World Champions Chan/Ng are top seeds in the mixed double as they aim to win their first elite mixed title together. They play Chan/Fung in their first match. Chung/Lam are the second seeds and they will take on Kwan/Cheng for a place in the quarter finals.

The doubles matches will kick off on Friday at 9:45 am (GMT +8)
