A busy day for the World Cup teams

It’s been a busy day for the world cup teams, with three rounds of matches today. Sweden defeated Austria 1 +23 in their first match of the day, where especially Ahlmer and Lindberg had strong victories for the team. Germany 1 beat India 1 by +25, to set up a meeting with third seed GB 1. The last first round match this morning was Czech Republic versus the Netherlands 1. Czech was slightly stronger as they beat the Dutch team +18. Their quarter-final opponents are second seeds France.

Sweden caused an upset by defeating top seeds Switzerland in the quarter-finals, by +7. A big result, especially without their no 1 player Lindberg who unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. Magnus Eliasson beat Lenggenhager by just one point, Ahlmer took the women’s singles +15 against Kilchenmann, Hedlund took the MS2 against Noah Mamié and Tay and Fagerström won the men’s doubles against Champod and Leon Mamié. They faced Great Britain 1 in the semi-finals, and had to do without Eliasson as well who got injured in his singles match just before the start of the semi-finals. Great Britain was too strong and defeated Sweden +41 before tennis, and are ready for the final tomorrow.

On the other side of the draw, France defeated Czech Republic in their quarter-final by +23, which saw the French team win before tennis. Hlavacova did well to beat Enmer in the women’s string +11 but it wasn’t enough for the team to win. Denmark defeated Finland in their first match of the day, taking it +23. They faced France in the semi-finals in a very close matchup. By the time they went to tennis, the score was even. Jaksland pulled away first, taking tennis 11-6, and Jacobsen got back from a deficit against Allègre taking tennis 11-1. Steinmetz and Hougaard only needed 7 points against Duthuillé and Piau, and won the match, taking Denmark into yet another final.

Great Britain will take on Denmark in the World Cup final at 18:45 tomorrow.

Nations Cup

The first matches of the nations cup took place today, as GB 2 won their first two matches against Germany 2 and France 3. USA also got off to a good start, beating Germany 2 by +19, and continued their good form by beating France 3 +12. They will play Great Britain 2 tomorrow to determine who will make it to the final of the Nations Cup.

France 2 and Hong Kong China 1 are currently leading Group B, as they won both of their matches today. France 2 had a close match against GB 3, taking it +15. They had a more comfortable match against Austria 2, taking it +62. France 2 and Hong Kong China 1 will play tomorrow to determine who will take the top spot in group B and make the finals.

Challenge Cup

All top seeds are through to the semi-finals of the challenge cup, some more comfortable than others. Hong Kong China 2 defeated France 5 +61. Great Britain 4 got the better of Belgian, but only by +3. France 4 defeated India 2 +23, after India beat Afghanistan +57 in the morning. Top seeds Switzerland are also safely through, they defeated Hungary +16 who got the better of the Netherlands 2 earlier in the morning. The semi-finals will start tomorrow morning at 8:00.

Challenge Cup

Team finals tomorrow – senior and juniors

The seniors +55 will play their last matches tomorrow, with a final between Switzerland +55 and Germany +55. Hungary +55 and Great Britain +55 face off for the bronze medal. The U21 will see an all British final with GB 1 playing GB 2. GB 2 won group A, beating Austria U21 +1 in an incredibly tight match and France U21 +43. GB1 beat Germany U21 2 today to secure their spot in the final. The final will start tomorrow at 9:45. The U16 final will be between Austria U16 1 and Great Britain U16 1 after they won all their group matches. Their final will be at 9:45 tomorrow.

Individual matches – Juniors

Augearu caused an upset in the U11 draw, beating top seed Luul +2 (9-15 14-16 15-5) to set up a final against Barrier, who beat second seed Eliseeva +18 and got the better of Duguet +23 (15-5 15-2). The Girls U13 only had two matches today, with Nina Altmann beating eliseeva +14 (14-21 21-18 21-19 21-5) and Luul beating Lara Altmann +20 (21-7 21-9 16-21 1-2). They will play their last group matches tomorrow at 11:00 and 15:15. In the juniors U16 top seed Kotala fell in the semi-finals to third seed Prager. Prager won the math +14 (21-11 23-21 21-18 7-8). Burgess beat Austin in an all-British battle, taking the match +34 (21-12 21-8 21-9) and book his spot in the final. He will face Prager at 16:15 tomorrow.

Aadirai K A made her way to the final and well on her way to defend her title after beating Mols +21 (21-4 21-2 3-21 4-1). She faces Ylvie Zahn in the final. Mols and Nothegger will play for bronze at 20:15. Pye and K A will play each other in the girls u18 final, after they both won their group matches. They will play at 15:00.

The Juniors U13, 18 and 21 didn’t have a match today and will play their final matches tomorrow.

Seniors

In the seniors +40, top seed Schaefer had to battle past Eliasson to make it to the semi-finals. He won the match +10 (16-21 21-16 21-14 15-12). He will face Mikac who defeated Jordan +8 (12-21 19-21 21-10 21-13). The other semi-finals will be between Lesser who beat Chan +2 (21-14 5-21 21-8 19-20) and he faces second seed Koubaa who got the better +17 (10-21 21-6 21-13 21-6). The Women seniors +40 are playing their last group matches tomorrow, Kaptein plays Flatman and Lui plays Hlavacova. Hlavacova beat Kaptein by just one point today and is currently first in the group. Top seeds Weigl and Manners are through to the semi-finals in the +45. Manners plays Cocriamont who got the better of third seed Korer, and Weigl will face seventh seed Kuntz. The women +45 also play their last group matches tomorrow, Voelkel is currently leading the group, after she beat Perschinka and top seed Maldre today.

The seniors +50 semi-finals are between Zeuner and Fagerström, and Nándori will have to wait to see who his opponent will be as Steinmetz and Port will play their quarter-final match tomorrow at 10:30. Jo Shelley is currently leading the women +50 and on her way to win a fifth +50 title. She got the better of Bois today and will play two more matches tomorrow. Jonsson faces Böhm  in the semi-final and Knaack plays second seed Grab. Sarah Ball is currently leading the women +55, she won both her matches so far and still has two more tomorrow. Gupta plays hobzik in the seniors +60 semi-finals, whilst Edby and Shemri battle it out on the other side of the draw. Top seed King was defeated by Budinsky in the quarter-finals, and Budinsky will now face fourth seed Veldkamp. Second seed Clapp defeated Rayson and Nielsen got the better of Kujala and will play in the other semi-final. Cain and Hesselbjerg came out on top of their groups and will play each other in the +70 final. Rayson and Räisänen will battle for bronze.
