Racket Masters Augsburg | Finals Day

The final day of the Racket Masters Augsburg, where Anna-Klara Ahlmer won her third title of the season and Sylvain Ternon won his second title back-to-back this time.

Another title for Ternon in his fifth final of the season

Ternon is one of the players that is in form this season, having made five consecutive finals in a row. He managed to win his first IWT title two weeks ago at the Swiss Open and he did it again at the Challenger event. He faced Vaclahovsky in the final, they played once before in 2019 where Ternon took the win. It was a very close and exciting final, Ternon just taking table tennis by 22-20 before taking badminton with 21-4. Vaclahovsky bounced back at squash, winning 21-2 before eventually bowing out to Ternon in tennis with 21-15. The overall score was +6 (22-20 21-4 2-21 21-15). Sion Wiggin overcame Bastian Bohm +6 (7-21 12-21 21-3 21-10) to secure the bronze medal.

Ahlmer wins third title of the season

Ahlmer is another player who is looking strong for the 2023 World Championships, as she just won her third title of the season. She had to work hard for it in Augsburg, after beating Altmann with a score of +3 on Saturday, she managed to secure the title on Sunday by beating Paul by just two points. Ahlmer got ahead and took table tennis 21-16 before just losing badminton 20-22. She retook the lead in squash 21-12 before getting enough points in tennis to win the match. The overall score was +2 (21-16 20-22 21-12 10-20).  Silke Altmann finished second and Natalie Paul finished third.

Open Categories – titles for Mühlberger, Schaedler, King, and

The men’s B was won by Mühlberger, who created an upset by knocking out the no 2 seed Carlier in the quarter finals. He then went on to beat Schupp +8 (4-21 21-10 21-0 7-14) to book his place in the final. In the final he faced Kuntz who defeated top seed Borner in the semi-finals by +17 (8-21 21-5 21-7 5-5). Mühlberger was the stronger player in the final, beating Kuntz +8 (12-21 13-21 21-0 18-14). Lena Schaedler won the Women’s B after winning all her matches quite convincingly. She sealed her victory by defeating Manuela Stegmann +20 (21-15 14-21 21-4 6-2). Stegmann came second whilst Julia Albrecht finished third. The men’s C was won by Graham King, who came through his group matches quite comfortably to defeat Michael Lechner +12 (21-13 21-11 16-21 9-10) in the final. The first timers was won by Heiko Reinhardt who beat Claus Köhler +66 (21-4 21-5 21-2 21-7). Geiger finished third beating Heufelder +21 (21-16 21-14 21-12).

Junior title for Böhm whilst Carlier takes the seniors title

Böhm got the better of Ried this time around after losing to him at the German Open. Böhm won his first match against Kotala +22 (21-15 21-13 21-15 2-0), and went on to beat Ried +21 (9-21 21-14 21-10 21-6) to secure the u21 title. Ried beat Kotala +21 (21-14 21-5 17-21 3-1) to secure the silver medal. Kotala finished third. Carlier won the seniors +40 title after beating Torsten Kuntz +19 (21-12 21-14 21-19 4-2) in the final. Kuntz beat top seed King in the semi-finals, whilst second seed Grab unfortunately had to retire in the semi-final against Carlier. This meant that there was no match for 3/4 and King finished third.
