Bundesliga’s Back & Schmitz Elected New German Racketlon President

Germany’s Racketlon Bundesliga made a triumphant return last weekend as the first half of the tournament took place just outside Cologne. The weekend also saw Jenny Schmitz elected as the new President of the German Racketlon Association.

Bundesliga’s Back!

In a new sports centre, German Bundesliga Racketlon made its long-awaited return after a two-year break. Christian Mauritz and his team made a great sports centre available to Racketlon; the Racketarena Rhein-Erft in Kerpen near Cologne.

In addition to four table tennis tables kindly provided by the main sponsor, Butterfly, there were four badminton courts, six squash courts and six tennis courts. Another main sponsor, Oliver, kindly provided the balls for badminton, squash and tennis.

With Bundesliga returning for the first time since before covid, there were three leagues, with seven teams in each. All players who made the journey to Kerpen thoroughly enjoyed the competitions. To round off the sporting part, the cosy part of the evening was held in the Chiaia Bar on the first floor of the sports centre with the players’ party and party continuing long into the night.

Schmitz Elected New German Racketlon Association Chairperson

The Annual General Meeting of the German Racketlon Association also met on the sidelines of the tournament. A new board was elected as a result. After six years as President, I have decided to resign for professional reasons and we have found a worthy successor. The previous vice-Chairperson, Jenny Schmitz, is the first woman in office. We wish her all the best and good luck in her decisions.

She will make those decisions alongside the following board members:

  • Torsten Kunts: Vice Chairperson
  • Christian Börner: Treasurer
  • Thorsten Bäumer: 1st Sports Director
  • Stephan Frenkel: 2nd Sports Director

We would also like to thank the retiring Thomas Knaack as 2nd Sports Director for four years of work on the board.

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the entire Racketlon community for the support during the six years of my tenure, and the kind wishes this weekend. Always stay sporty and healthy, see you somewhere in a sports hall.

Bye and see you soon,
your Franky
