Entry to the 2019 Racketlon World Singles Championships, held from Wednesday 20th to Sunday 24th November, is now open.
The tournament takes place at Sportpark Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany and will have at least 25 categories open for players of all ages and abilities.
As always, the tournament is expected to be the biggest of the year, with hundreds of racketlon players from around the World heading to Germany.
The World Team Championships are also taking part in the same week, with entry for that due to open in the coming weeks.
Sportpark Leipzig
Sportpark Leipzig is a fantastic venue with top-quality facilities for all four sports. There is an eight-court badminton hall, which will also house the table tennis, eight glass-backed squash courts and eight indoor carpet tennis courts. The badminton courts have recently had brand-new flooring and LED lighting recently installed.
Sportpark Leipzig has plenty of other facilities. There are a central bar and restaurant area where you can watch all the action as well as a spa and sauna area available to all players.
The main tournament hotel is located right next door to the venue while there is also the Sachsen Therme, a naturally occurring thermal spa rated as “one of the most beautiful wellness facilities in the whole of Germany”.
Hotels and Transport
Currently, there are two tournament hotels in Leipzig that players can book into, with more budget options announced soon.
The first is the H4 Hotel, which is located directly next to the sports centre and is hosting the Players Meal and Party on Saturday night.
Booking into this hotel includes a “rich warm and cold breakfast buffet”, wifi, Sky Sports TV Package and use of the hotel spa.
The second hotel is the Suite Hotel, located 1.5km from the sports centre. It is either a 20-minute walk or there is a direct bus available from outside the hotel with all bookings also including breakfast and free wifi.
Information about prices and booking is available here but it should be noted that bookings for both hotels are first come first served so book early to avoid disappointment.
In terms of travel, Leipzig does have an airport but it runs on a restricted service. The nearest major international airports are Berlin Schonefeld and Berlin Tegel. Leipzig is located 65 minutes away by train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof with trains leaving every hour. The last train departs for Leipzig at 21:30.
A shuttle service will be operating from Leipzig Hauptbahnhof on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th November to the tournament hotels and venue. It is essential to email duncan@dwsevents.com with your train details to book a shuttle from the station.
An alternative is to hire a car from one of the Berlin Airports. Leipzig is two hours away by car.
