Schöpf Wins First International Elite-Title in Murau

Emanuel Schöpf (Credit: fairplayfofo.net) wins the men elite title at Murau Open Challenger (26.-27.10.). The u21 team world champion beat Stephan Schmutzer in the final after victories in both badminton and squash. “I was the more fit player”, said a very happy Schöpf after his first victory.

Top seeded Lukas Windischberger had to retire in the semi-final due to an injury of his achilles. Christoph Krenn also had to retire against Schmutzer due to injury in the quarter-final after having beaten Matija Mikac in his first round match. Brother Nikola Mikac took the elite bronze medal.

Austrian junior Grafeneder and senior Knotter win men B and men C draw

Austrian juniors reach the final in a strong men b advanced draw. Unseeded u21 team world champion Jonas Grafeneder beats Kim Niederhausen, Dieter Mühl and Philipp Schneider on his way to the final, where u16 national team player Florian Harca was waiting after victories over Dariausz Walczak, Christian Börner and Matthias Heilbrunner. In the final Grafeneder took gold without needing the tennis racket. In the amateur draw tournament director Michael Wölfl ended as runner-up, with senior legend Erich Knotter taking victory.

“On behalf of everyone, thank you to Michael for a great tournament organisation”, said world number one Christine Seehofer after the prize winning ceremony on Saturday evening and went off with all participants to the players party including “Bockbier-Anstich”.
