The action on Friday kicked off with the mixed doubles, with players from both the mixed A and mixed B taking to the courts. In the Mixed Elite, last year’s defending champions started well with Böhm and Altmann, taking a +17 win over Kilchenmann and Mamié. Mansour and Lenggenhager also secured a decisive win of +25 against Ladner and Mamié, meaning that they both secured a semi-final spot against the first and second seeds, respectively. The semi-finals saw two great matches – Cavé and Castel vs Mansour and Lenggenhager, and Altmann and Böhm vs Reissenauer and Kanonenberg. Both matches went all the way and were eventually decided by just one point each, but in the end only two pairs could reach the final and this was Cavé and Castel and Altmann and Böhm. After a tightly fought final, Cavé and Castel came out on top, securing the title with a +8-point win.
The mixed B also saw many extremely competitive matches, with Altmann and Neumann securing their semifinal spot with a +21 victory over Vötter and Solomon, whilst Albrecht and Sontag secured a +17 victory against Stegmann and Sela to book their place in the semifinal. The semifinal in the top half of the draw between Königsmarková and Port and Altmann and Neumann, was once again an extremely tight match, being the third semi-final of the day to be decided by just one point, with Altmann and Neumann eventually coming out on top and getting through to the final. In the other semi-final Albrecht and Sontag came through a well fought match against the second seeds Heimburg and Börner, claiming a +7 victory to secure a place in the final. The final was a less close affair than the two semi-finals, as Altmann and Neumann eventually won the title with a +23 victory.
The doubles then kicked off in the afternoon, with the women’s A being played in a group format. Cavé and Kilchenmann took the title in a very impressive display of sporting ability, without dropping a single sport, and Königsmarková and Ladner claimed second place, with a decisive win over stegmann and Heimburg. The Men’s A was an extremely competitive competition, with many tight first round matches taking place, eventually setting up two big semifinals. The first semi-final between Böhm and Prager and Neumann and Reissenauer was eventually won by Böhm and Prager, putting them through to the final, but Alina Reissenauer deserves a lot of credit for playing in the men’s event and winning her first-round match with Neumann. The second semi-final was slightly closer with Castel and Lenggenhager claiming a 17+ win against the Mamié brothers to put them through to the final. In the final Böhm and Prager came out on top with a +10 victory, meaning that Böhm successfully defended his title from last year.
The men’s B/C doubles was also contested this afternoon, with many tight matches eventually resulting in a final involving the three Sam brothers and Benjamin RadI. Benjamin Radl and Leon Sam took on Robin and Romeo Sam, and like so many other matches today, went all the way down to a deciding point, with Robin and Romeo eventually taking the win and the title.
Congratulations to all the winners, and after many extremely close and competitive matches today we are all looking forwards to seeing what will happen in the singles events tomorrow.
