Jacobsen and Griffiths take SWT Polish Open titles

Top seeds and favourites Stine Jacobsen and Leon Griffiths added yet another title to their collections as they claimed the SWT Polish Open titles today.

Leon Griffiths got the better of Kresten Hougaard by +19 (18-21 21-8 21-14 5-3) in the semi-finals, as Joerg Kanonenberg beat Rav Rykowski by +13 after clinching a very close table tennis game by 22-20, he managed to create a lead by taking badminton 21-12. Rykowski took squash 21-18 but Kanonenberg took the win taking tennis 14-9. The overall score was +13 (22-20 21-12 18-21 14-9).

Table tennis was close in the final, with Kanonenberg taking tt 21-19. Griffiths bounced back winning badminton 21-4 and squash 21-14 taking the match +22 (19-21 21-4 21-14). Rav Rykowski battled past the no 3 seed Kresten Hougaard, taking the match +3 (6-21 21-8 22-20 21-18).

No 1 seed Stine Jacobsen won her 12th singles title today, beating USA no 1 Steph Chung +31 (16-21 21-0 21-6) in the final. Lucie Hlavacova finished third, beating Mollie Patterson in another close battle by +5 (4-21 21-13 21-12 21-16).

It was a great tournament in Poland this week. The tournament organisation was fantastic as usual, hats off to Dariusz and his team. The centre was great, nice food, a shuttle service to the hotel and free lunch on Friday and Saturday! It’s also safe to say that the Polish Open prize giving ceremony never dissapoints!
