The first few rounds of the men’s A were played on Saturday, as the sixteen strong draw took to the courts to try to book themselves a place in the semi-finals on Sunday. After many tight matches, the semi-final line up was decided: Kanonenberg secured his place with two strong wins against Prager and Sopko, whilst Gergely played brilliantly in his two matches, knocking out Noah Mamié before beating the third seed Lenggenhager. Our next two semi-finalists both had to come through tight quarter finals to secure their spots, with Castel beating Böhm by +3 and Griffiths also beating Léon Mamié by +3, to set up their meeting tomorrow.
The Women’s A event got underway too, with all six players looking to win a place in the semi-finals. In group A, Cavé secured two strong wins against Mansour and Reissenauer, whilst the deciding match for the second available spot was well fought and eventually won by Mansour. In group B, Altmann claimed two wins and a place in the semi-finals, whilst the decider between Ladner and Kilchenmann was won by Kilchenmann, who only required one point in tennis to book her place. In tomorrow’s semifinals Cavé will play Kilchenmann, and Altmann will face Mansour, for a place in the final.
Many competitive matches also took place today in the Men’s B, particularly in the second semi-final between Nussbächer and Vaclahovsky, which Nussbächer eventually won by just 2 points, to claim his spot in tomorrow’s final. Nussbächer will play the first seed, Port, who won his semi-final by +14 to earn his place. The women’s B, like the Women’s A, was split into two boxes of three, with four semi-final spots up for grabs. These were eventually claimed by Heimburg, Altmann, Königsmarková and Albrecht, who will all be looking to secure a spot in the final tomorrow.
In the Men’s C, brothers Romeo Sam and Robin Sam will have to play each other in one of the semi finals, while Haushalter and Sela will take each other on in the other.
The final of the U21’s will also take place tomorrow between Kotala and Sam, which should be a brilliant match, after both secured a win today against RadI.
Good luck to all the players tomorrow, who still have matches to play. We look forward to finding out who will win the titles.
