Starting the new season where she left off, Pauline Cavé claimed two victories on the first day of the IWT French Open. Let’s see what happened on day 1.
Perfect world doubles prep for Kaptein and Cavé
A succesful first tournament together for Kaptein/Cavé, who played together for the first time. Kaptein/Cavé got of to a good start, beating Haurant/Maldre +16. Table tennis was very close, 21-17 before Haurant/Maldre got the lead back taking badminton +9. Kaptein/Cavé bounced back in squash, taking it 21-6, before closing out the match in tennis. The overall score was +16 (21-17 12-21 21-6 12-6).
The second women’s doubles match was Dony/Kilchenmann versus Haurant/Maldre. Dony and Kilchenmann are also playing together at the World Doubles, and for the first time on the IWT tour. Similar to the WD previous match, Dony/Kilchenmann took table tennis 21-16 before Haurant/Maldre won badminton 21-16. Dony/Kilchenmann got ahead in squash, taking it 21-9 and sealed the match 10-6 in tennis. The overall score was +16 (21-16 16-21 21-9 10-6).
The title decider was between Kaptein/Cavé and Dony/Kilchenmann. Dony/Kilchenmann started off well, taking the first two sports. Table tennis 21-16 and badminton 21-15. This gave them an 11 point lead going into squash. Kaptein/Cavé played to their strenghts in squash, taking it 21-10, levelling the score. Kaptein/Cavé finished the match by dominating in tennis, taking it 21-7 and the match +14 (16-21 15-21 21-10 21-7).
Top seeds Cavé/Davidson claim their first title together
Matthew Davidson came in as a last minute reserve after the withdrawal of Henrik Mustonen, and it is safe to say that he did not dissapoint. Cavé/Davidson played their first match against French duo Haurant/Duthuillé. They started well, taking table tennis 21-15, before the French took badminton 21-13. Cavé/Davidson then went on to win squash 21-15 and tennis 18-2. The overall score was +20 (21-15 13-21 21-15 18-2).
Their opponents in the final were Kilchenmann/Kurek who defeated second seeds Kaptein/Volf +21. They were slightly stronger in all sports, even though it was close. The overall score was +21 (21-16 21-13 21-14 2-1).
Cavé/Davidson started well in the final, taking table tennis and badminton 21-13 21-9. Kilchenmann and Kurek took squash 21-11, but could not do enough in tennis to turn the match around. The overall score was +15 (21-13 21-9 11-21 12-7).
Lindberg/Lenggenhager win the men’s doubles title
Top seeds Lenggenhager and Lindberg made the final after winning their group matches. They beat Bishop/Du Noyer in an entertaining match, where both badminton and squash could have gone either way. The overall score was +12 (21-10 21-19 21-19 7-10). They then went on to beat Kurek/Michot +24 (21-18 21-14 21-7). Bishop/Du Noyer finished 2nd in Group A, beating Kurek/Michot in an incredibly close match, taking it +3 (11-21 21-15 21-19 21-16).
Second seeds Davidson/Stahl also made it through to the final. They beat Hamon/Steyer in their first match, taking it +14 (21-12 6-21 21-5 12-8). They then went on to beat Cavé/Cocriamont +18 (15-21 21-10 21-12 8-4). Cavé/Cocriamont beat fellow French players Hamon/Steyer +19 (21-12 14-21 21-9 8-3).
Davidson/Stahl got themselves a +6 lead in table tennis, taking the it 21-15. Lindberg/Lenggenhager bounced back, taking both badminton and squash 21-10. This meant they only needed 6 points in tennis. Davidson/Stahl made life difficult, but Lindberg/Lenggenhager prevailed, taking tennis 6-12 and the IWT French Open title with an overall score of +10 (15-21 21-10 21-10 6-12).
Open titles for – Colombi/Vincent, Cocriamont/Le Toux
Perrine Colombi and Pauline Vincent have won the IWT French Open Women’s B title, after winning both their group matches. They beat Antoni/Phanouvong +18 (21-7 11-21 21-8 5-4) before claiming their title by defeating Martin/Perret +10 (21-11 11-21 21-7 8-12). Antoni/Phanouvong then went on to secure the silver medal, beating Martin/Perret +15 (21-10 21-7 13-21 5-7).
It was a dominant performance from the French duo Cocriamont/Le Toux in the Senior +40 doubles category. They claimed the title without having to touch a tennis racket. They beat Lardet/Worobel +27 (21-8 21-12 21-16) in the final. Antoine/Pauvert got the better of Baus/Guicherd in a very close affair, taking the match +4 (16-21 21-12 22-24 23-21).
