Golden weekend for Kevin Ng and Joyce Chan in Hong Kong

After winning two gold medals yesterday, Kevin Ng and Joyce Chan added another gold medal to their collection in a successful home tournament.

A first elite singles title for Kevin Ng

After making the final at the Thailand Open Challenger last month, it turned out to be another succesful tournament for Kevin Ng, ending even better, on top of the podium this time. Ng got the better of top seed Mandrin Mouchet in the semi-finals, taking the match +10 (21-11 17-21 21-14 9-12). His opponent in the final was Bryan Leung who beat Chu Him Ho in a tough semi-final match by +4 (6-21 21-2 6-21 21-6).

This was the pairs first meeting on the IWT tour, and Kevin got off to a quick start, taking table tennis 21-11. Bryan regained some points as he won badminton 21-17, but Kevin took squash 21-14 which meant that he only needed 9 points in tennis. Kevin took tennis 9-12 and the match +10 (21-11 17-21 21-14 9-12) to win his first elite singles title.

Mandrin Mouchet defeated Chu Him Ho by just 1 point to secure the bronze medal. The overall score was +1 (11-21 21-5 2-21 21-7).

Men’s draw

Joyce Chan claims second elite singles title

Joyce Chan just claimed her second elite singles title today after defeating world no 6 Stephanie Chung in the final. It was a closely contested match, but it was badminton where Joyce managed to win the match. Stephanie Chung won table tennis 21-19, before Joyce Chan created a huge lead, taking badminton 21-2. Squahs was a closely contested match that went to Chan 21-19, which meant that she only needed 3 points in tennis. Chung put up a fight but it wasn’t meant to be as Joyce took tennis 3-7 and the match +15 (19-21 21-2 21-19 3-7).

Wan Yin Lui won the battle for bronze, beating Nienke Veldkamp by +14 (21-1 21-13 3-21 12-8).

Women’s draw

Open titles for Lee, Lee, Leung and Feng

Hei Nam Lee has won the Men’s B title after winning all his group matches. Chi Ming Chan took silver and UK’s Adrian Ng took bronze. The women’s B title was won by Pamela Lee after she defeated top seed Phet Phanouvong from France with an overall score of +14 (22-24 25-27 21-5 10-8). Cheuk Ying Kwan finished third.

Tang Hon Leung won the men’s C by just one point, taking the match +1 (18-21 24-22 13-21 22-12) beating Victor Wong. Chun Kit Tse defeated Oliver Bodem +6 (21-18 21-5 12-21 12-16) in the 3/4 playoff. Dawei Feng from Signapore could crown himself the First Timers champion after he got the better of Hui Sing Wong, taking the match +10 (21-7 21-10 4-21 14-12). Lo Yiu Tong won the bronze medal.

Junior and Senior titles for Yiu, Kyros Lie-A-Cheong, Sudo, Li and Chan

Cheuk Hei Yiu won the junior u13 title beating Ka Hin Kang by +13 (21-15 13-21 21-2 5-9). Kyros Lie-A-Cheong won the Juniors u21 after winning all his group matches. Cheuk Hei Yiu won silver and Ka Hin Kang won bronze. The seniors +40 was won by Hirona Sudo from Japan after he beat Bong Tai Shu +23 (21-7 21-20 21-13) in the final. Matthias Windbacher took the bronze medal. Samuel Li got the better of Graham King in the senior +50 final. He took the match +20 (2-21 21-9 21-6 14-2). Seppo Raiski finished third, beating Lo Yiu Tong by +10 (21-4 3-21 21-3 5-12). Chi Ming Chan won the seniors +60 coming out on top in the group. Kwok Tai Ho finished second and Tak Keung Yeung finished third.
