We’re getting ready for a weekend of world-class Racketlon in Mumbai India at the Bombay Gymkhana club! The Bombay Gymkhana International Racketlon Open. The Friday will start with the doubles matches and first round of men’s singles and the rest of the singles will kick off on Saturday.
Possible repeat of the World Championships final
An exciting men’s draw headed by world no 1 Leon Griffiths in which we can potentially see another Griffiths brother clash if both make it to the final. Leon Griffiths will play his first match against the winner between Mandrin Mouchet and Nandal Sidharth. His potential semi-final opponent is fourth seed Kresten Hougaard, provided he gets trhough his quarter-final against either Agrawal Aayush or Mohammed Tarik Koubaa.
Koen Hageraats is also ready to go, fresh of his appearance in the final of the Czech Open and he will play either Duncan Stahl or Sing Varinder. Nicolas Lenggenhager is the second seed for this event, he is set to play World Champion Luke Griffiths or Engineer Rehaan in the quarter-finals.
The first round matches are from 6:30 PM (GMT +5:30) and the quarter finals will be from 12:00 PM (GMT +5:30) on Saturday.
A battle between Ahlmer and Jacobsen for the top spot
Ahlmer and Jacobsen have been trading the world no 1 position this year, and it is Anna-Klara Ahlmer coming into this event as the top seed. The women will play a round robin to determine the winner, and Ahlmer will face tough opponents in Stine Jacobsen, Stephanie Chung and Amke Fischer. Ahlmer will play her first match on Saturday against America’s Stephanie Chung, whilst Stine Jacobsen will take on Germany’s Amke Fischer. They will play two group matches on saturday and the final match on Sunday.
Exciting doubles matches to come
The men’s elite doubles will start on Friday 12:00 PM (GMT +5:30) where we can see the current world men’s doubles champions Leon and Luke Griffiths take on home favourites Akshinthala Abhinava K and Nandal Sidharth. The other men’s semi-final will between world doubles bronze medalists Koen Hageraats/ Nicolas Lenggenhager and Mohammed Tarik Koubaa/ Duncan Stahl.
Luke Griffiths/ Anna-Klara Ahlmer are top seeds in the mixed doubles, facing Lenggenhager/Chung in their first match. Hougaard/Jacobsen are the second seeds, they have played together a lot this season and know each other’s game very well. They play Leon Griffiths and Amke Fischer in their first match.
The women’s doubles will just be one match between Chung/Fischer and Ahlmer/Jacobsen. Ahlmer/Jacobsen won the Finnish Open at the beginning of the season and team up once again. They will start at 11:45 on Friday.
