The second day of the 16. Austrian Open Graz SWT saw many exciting matches unfold. The men are split in two groups and battling it out for a place in the final, whilst the women are also playing preliminary rounds to determine who will go to the final and 3/4 playoffs.
Ahlmer and Allègre strong looking for another gold medal, home hope Olsacher also eying a place on the podium
The first match of the day saw Allègre take on Dara Ladner from Switzerland, after a tough table-tennis game, taking it +16 (21-19 21-4 21-14). Olsacher was the stronger player in an all-Austrian battle, defeating Sandra Ettenauer +26 (7-21 21-2 21-0). World no 1 and top seed for this event Anna-Klara Ahlmer managed to defeat her doubles partner and no 2 seed Flore Allègre +18 (21-10 5-21 21-13 19-4). Ahlmer’s next match was against Sandra Ettenauer which she managed to win +39 (21-18 21-4 21-2), as well as her last match of the day against Ladner +31 (21-10 21-16 21-6).
Olsacher continued her winning streak, beating Ladner +30 (22-20 21-6 21-8) but couldn’t create a small upset against Allègre, losing the match +23 (23-21 21-6 21-15). The last group matches before the final are Allègre vs Ettenauer and Ahlmer vs Olsacher.
Ternon and Mustonen lead their groups
A busy schedule with many men’s elite matches to be completed today, with some great Racketlon. Ternon is currently leading group B, winning all his matches today. He got the better of Kresten Hougaard in his first match of the day, taking it +22 (11-21 21-1 21-14 5-0) and saw off Bastian Böhm +37 (21-8 21-6 15-6) in his second match. His last match of the day was against fellow Frenchman Mouchet which he won +32 (21-11 21-12 21-8). It will be interesting to see who finishes in which position for the final matches tomorrow, as Hougaard defeated Koubaa +14 (21-17 19-21 21-6 5-8), and Bastian Bohm +12 (21-17 21-19 21-10 5-10). Koubaa won his match against Böhm +17 (21-11 14-21 21011 9-5) but lost to Mouchet +7 (11-21 21-6 21-17 13-15),
Henrik Mustonen got off to a winning start in group A, beating Marcel Weigl +20 (13-21 21-17 21-0 5-2) and he also won his second match +31 (21-15 21-14 21-3) against Duthuillé. Fourth seed Vaclahovsky also started off well, beating Duthuillé +19 (21-19 15-21 21-4 9-3). He then went on to beat top seed Lenggenhager +10 (21-18 9-21 21-2 12-12) and fourth seed Vaclahovsky +19 (18-21 12-21 21-5 18-3) to lead the group at the end of singles day 1.
The last matches of the group stages will be Vaclahovsky vs Weigl and Lenggenhager vs Mustonen in group A, and Hougaard vs Mouchet and Ternon vs Koubaa.
