Day 1 – It’s the team matches in the morning session

The GB Junior teams got off to a great start in the morning, with the U21 1, 2 and U16 1 and 2 winning all their matches. Austria also started great, with the U16 team beating France U18 Austria 1 defeated Austria 2. Let’s have a look at what happened on day 1…

Junior teams

The first match of the day was in the U21 between GB 1 and GB 3. GB1 managed to take the match +23 to get a head start in retaining their world title. The next match in group B was Germany U21 against GB U21 3, which Germany U21 took in a closely contested match. In Poule A GB U21 2 got a winning start beating France U21 +43. No luck for France U21 in their second match as they lost to a strong Austrian team by +41. The last group matches are tomorrow where Germany U21 plays Great Britain U21 1 to determine the group winner in Group B and Austria U21 and Great Britain U21 2 will battle to decide who will top group A.

The U18 teams also had an early 8:30am start, as Austria U18 1 beat Austria U18 2. Czech U18 defeated India U18 +38. Czech U18 continued their strong form as they beat Austria U18 1 in a tough match, taking it +7. India U18 bounced back after the loss earlier in the morning, and beat Austria U18 2 by 10 points. The last group matches will be tomorrow at 11:45.

Great Britain steamrolled through the morning session, as their GB U16 2 team defeated Czech U16 +33. The other match in group A was between Austria U16 1 and France U16 2 with a +71 score. GB U16 2 also won their second match of the day, beating France +60. Austria U16 1 also won their second match, beating Czech +56. GB U16 2 and Austria U16 1 play tomorrow morning to decide who will top group A. In group B, GB U16 1 beat Austria U16 2 +59. GB U16 1 went on to win their second match against France U16 1 +41 and will play in the final tomorrow. Austria U16 2 and France U16 2 will decide who finishes 2nd and 3rd in Poule B.

The U13’s are in a group of four, Austria U13 1 beat Austria U13 2 +68. Meanwhile Germany U13 lost to France U13 in a close match by just 13 points. Austria U13 1 continued their strong form, beating France U13 +36. Germany U13 defeated Austria U13 2 in their second match of the day.The last group matches will be tomorrow.

France has had a good day in the U11 event, as France U11 1 won both their matches, and France U11 2 managed to beat Germany U11 in a gummi-arm playoff. Germany U11 defeated GB U11 +42. They will play their last matches tomorrow, as France looks strong to win the title.

Senior teams

The +40 only have a group of three, and Germany got off to a good start, beating hosts The Netherlands +40 by +54. GB +40 beat Germany +40 in a gummi arm playoff, and will play the Netherlands +40 tomorrow to see who gets the trophy.

France and GB got good starts in the +45 category, with France +45 beating Germany +45 +24 and GB +45 beating the Swedish team +9 in a tough match. Germany +45 had a very tough loss against Sweden +45 who prevailed in a thrilling match. The last matches will be played tomorrow to determine the champions.  

Germany and GB got two wins each in group B in the +55, beating Sweden +55 and Finland +55. Both teams had a tough match against Sweden. They will play tomorrow to decide who will finish first in their group. Switzerland +55 is the current leader in group A, after beating France +55 and Hungary +55. They play their last match against the Netherlands +55 at 10:15 tomorrow. Finland +65 got off to a good start, beating Czech +65 +10 in their first match. Denmark +65 booked two victories today, beating GB +65 and Czech +65. Finland +65 defeated GB +65 and they will play their last group match tomorrow against Denmark +65 to decide who will become World Champion.
