Berlin Hosts Exciting New Racketlon World Tour Event

Berlin Open

Berlin will host to a brand new Racketlon International World Tour event for the first time this May.

The IWT Berlin Open takes place from the 17th-19th May at the Sportcenter Wittenau.

The tournament is also the first in the new “Victor Racketlon Series 2019”. More information is coming about this soon.

Why enter the Berlin Open?

The Berlin Open is boasting a superb blend of on-court and off-court activities to make it a hugely attractive tournament.

On-court, the tournament offers an array of entry categories for players of all ages and abilities to enter. Following the success in Club La Santa, there will also be a Gumi Arm Tournament on Saturday night, with all entry proceeds going to charity.

Away from the court, there are a vast array of activities to help show everything Berlin has to offer.

On Thursday there is a walking tour around a number of key Berlin sites, including Checkpoint Charlie and the Asisi Panorama Exhibition.

In the evenings there will also be opportunities to try a number of local delicacies. On Thursday evening there is welcome drinks and food while on Friday evening there will be a Turkish Feast at the sports centre

Saturday night will see a players dinner and party at the sports centre with the opportunity to go out into Berlin to continue the party afterwards.

What is the Sportcenter Wittenau?

The tournament venue, located in the north of Berlin, is perfect for racketlon. There is a large hall for badminton, a separate table-tennis area and glass-backed squash courts. The indoor hard tennis courts come with a retractable roof to suit different weather conditions.

The venue itself also boasts an on-site bar, sauna, beer garden, BBQ and a large supermarket just next door.

The tournament will begin on the Friday at 09:00 with the doubles classes. Some singles classes will begin from 16:00 on Friday but the majority will begin on Saturday morning. The finals will take place on Sunday with the prize giving ceremony in the afternoon.

The tournament holds special importance in the 2019 Racketlon World Tour because it is the first event of the new Victor Racketlon Series.

While more information will be coming about the Series in the coming weeks, we can reveal that the three tournaments in the Series will be the IWT Berlin Open, IWT Latvian Open and IWT Malta Open.

The players who score the most ranking points across these three events will win a share of 2000 euros worth of Victor prizes and VIP tickets to the semi-finals of the Danish Open 2019, a big Badminton World Tour event.

Where to stay and how to get there?

While there are a number of hotel and Airbnb options across Berlin, the Holiday Inn Express Berlin City Centre is the official tournament hotel.

The hotel is located just a three to four minutes walk from the S Anhalter S-Bahn station. From there you can get a direct train to Wittenau, the tournament venue.

There are also two airports in Berlin, Tegal and Schonefeld. Both are between 20 and 25 minutes away from the tournament hotel by car (although Tegal is closer by public transport).

To book into the tournament hotel, please email reservations@BERAB.HIExpress.com and quote “Berlin Racketlon 2019”. Rooms in the tournament hotel MUST be booked before the 11th of April.
