World no.1 and strong favourite Chrissie Seehofer (Austria) along with the returning Jesper Ratzer (Denmark) both managed to retain their titles at the World Championships in Zurich.
Seehofer, dominant all season, defeated Astrid Reimer-Kern (Germany) in the final, where the Austrian successfully got the 15 points at tennis she required to retain her title and continue her dominance in the women’s game.
Ratzer meanwhile was forced to go searching in the bottom of his bag for his tennis racket on 3 occasions – first by his compatriot Kasper Jonsson, then by a spirited performance by the young Brit Leon Griffiths before a very competitive, high quality final against world no.1 Lukas Windischberger. Ratzer came through unscathed however to add another world title to his list of incredible achievements in the sport.
While in the Team competition, Austria were victorious in perhaps the closest ever World Championship Team final as they defeated Great Britain in a dramatic Friday night match that was broadcast live on Swiss TV.
