That’s a wrap on four days of Racketlon in Denmark, and what a four days it has been! A huge thank you to Kim, Thomas, Kresten, and the team for organising such a great tournament.
Anna-Klara Ahlmer and Luke Griffiths are the big winners this week as they go home with three gold medals.
Anna-Klara Ahlmer wins her third title of the season
A great weekend for Anna-Klara, winning her first world doubles titles and managing to fight for the singles title after an emotional week. She had a very tough match against Amke Fischer which she managed to scrape through. Amke played some great squash giving herself a small lead against Anna-Klara in tennis. It all seemed to go well for the world no 1 until she hit 20-12, and Fischer managed to bring it back to 20-16 before Ahlmer managed to win the match. The overall score was +3 (13-21 21-9 15-21 21-16).
Pauline Cavé made her third consecutive final after beating wildcard Bethany Pye. She was too strong today in table tennis and badminton for the young British player. The overall score was +38 (21-8 21-15 21-2).
Cavé took an early lead in the final, taking table tennis 21-18, but Anna-Klara produced some solid badminton winning 21-8. Squash was incredibly close, with both players having game ball several times. Anna-Klara managed to take the game 26-24, which meant she only needed 10 points in tennis. From then on she did not let go, taking tennis 10-3 and the match +19 (18-21 21-8 26-24 10-3). It was still a great result for Pauline Cavé, who will probably break into the top 10 soon with these good results.
Amke Fischer defeated Bethany Pye to claim the bronze medal. She won +25 (17-21 21-6 21-7).
Luke wins the title as Leon unfortunately had to withdraw
Unfortunately for the Racketlon fans it wasn’t another Griffiths vs Griffiths final as Leon had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. He did well to make it to the final, after Max Oldehaver really took the game to him. Oldehaver won table tennis 21-11, Leon won badminton 21-8, and after a lengthy squash game Max managed to take squash 21-19. In tennis it became clear that Leon was struggling with his injury, as he had to serve underhands. He managed to win tennis 21-16 and the match +6 (11-21 21-8 19-21 21-16).
Luke played a strong match against Sylvain Ternon in their semi-final. He took table tennis 21-15 and played really well in badminton, getting 15 points against his opponent. Luke won squash 21-10 going into tennis with a comfortable lead, which he sealed with 11-4 after a short injury break.
Sylvain Ternon won the bronze medal after he managed to beat Max Oldehaver by +1 (7-21 21-1 5-21 21-10) after an incredibly tight match.
