Rotterdam and London to Host the 2023 Racketlon World Championships

We are delighted to confirm that Rotterdam and London have been chosen to host the 2023 Racketlon World Championships.

The World Singles Championship and World Teams Championship will take place together at Victoria in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from Wednesday, August 2 to Sunday, August 6.

A couple of weeks earlier, the World Doubles Championships will take place alongside the IWT London Open at the Roehampton Club. The World Doubles Championship will take place from Thursday, July 20 to Friday, July 21. The IWT London Open will also take place from Friday, July 21 to Sunday, July 23.

World Singles Championship and World Teams Championship in Rotterdam

Victoria last hosted the Racketlon World Championships back in 2007. Last year it successfully returned to the Racketlon World Tour with the IWT Dunlop Rotterdam Open. 16 years later, it will return as the host venue of the sport’s biggest event.

The tournament itself will take place in early August, a new spot for the Racketlon World Championships. The event will take place over five days, starting on Wednesday, August 2 and ending on Sunday, August 6. It will feature both the World Teams Championships and World Singles Championship.

“The Victoria Club in Rotterdam is a venue that we have wanted to bring the world championships to for many years,” says FIR President Duncan Stahl. “As a host for many international squash and tennis tournaments, with a large outdoor tennis centre court next to the clubhouse, alongside two glass squash show courts and much indoor space to create table tennis and badminton arenas, it will provide some of the best spectator experiences that Racketlon has ever seen.

“With a huge restaurant and entertainment space, outdoor bar, terraces and BBQ areas, all within a fantastic, extremely well-connected city in the heart of Europe, it is the perfect home for our singles and teams world championships.

“Preparations are already underway to make this one of the great world championships – with player experience and enjoyment at the heart of everything we do.”

World Doubles Championship and IWT London Open

Unlike Victoria, the Roehampton Club does not have a long racketlon history. In fact, it is one of the newer venues on the circuit, with the first tournament only being hosted at the prestigious London club in 2019. However, after two editions of the tournament, this has become an instant favourite of a number of players, thanks largely to the incredible grass courts.

Now, the Racketlon World Championships will return to the United Kingdom for the first time since 2014. The World Doubles Championships will take place two weeks before Rotterdam, on Thursday, July 20 and Friday, July 21.

Even more historically, these will be the first Championships to feature grasscourt tennis. It is worth mentioning earlier on that there will be a player capacity limit – to be confirmed at a later date – for the World Doubles Championships. If you want to enter in 2023, then make sure you get your entry in early.

“I couldn’t be more excited about bringing the FIR World Doubles Championships to the Roehampton Club in London next summer alongside the regular IWT London Open,”, said Stahl. “

The Roehampton Club is one of the most famous, iconic sports clubs in the world with simply incredible facilities. Players, supporters and families will get to enjoy the luxurious and beautiful surroundings of the club over four days in what will be a truly special experience for all those taking part.

“It will also be the first time in Racketlon history that a world championship will involve playing tennis on grass courts – and they are some of the best, well-maintained grass courts in the whole of the UK. So get your white tennis clothing ready for an unforgettable time in London next summer!”

More information about the 2023 Racketlon World Championships, and first announcement about the 2023 Racketlon World Tour, will be coming later this year.
