The first-ever Danish Team Championships were hosted by newly formed Racketlon Nordjylland in Lovely Aalborg in the northern part of Denmark.
The team concept is simple. It is Eastern Denmark vs. Western Denmark. Every player plays at least one singles and one doubles or mixed match. As the West team was slightly outnumbering the East, then some East players had to play more matches.
The overall match also had Racketlon World No.1 Morten Jaksland facing a “fantasy” team of West players, where captain Stine Jacobsen picked one player for each sport.
The First Danish National Team Championships was a Huge Success
The match followed regular racketlon team rules where every point counts and the teams finish all sets of one sport before moving on to the next. The home venus of Racketlon Nordjylland featured great facilities across all four sports and we were able to play three sets simultaneously. The Racketlon team format offers a great competitive atmosphere where the waiting teammates can cheer for teammates along the way.
The match was very even across the table tennis, with East opening up a small five-point lead. In the badminton, West pulled back the five points which meant that the match was completely even going into squash.
Squash was match-deciding, with East winning by a hefty 122 points. Tennis was kept at about even, which means that the first-ever Danish Team Championship winner is Team East.
After all of the on-court action, both teams had a well-deserved players’ dinner. We hope that next year can be with even more participants!
