Unfortunately, the season-opening IWT RSL Finnish Open, planned for February 18-20 has had to be cancelled.
Covid restrictions in Finland have not allowed any events with more than 20 persons. We have been waiting for the latest government announcement on January 16 to see if these restrictions were to be relaxed. This would have allowed the tournament to take place. However, this announcement confirmed that these restrictions would now be continued until at least January 31. The expectation is that they will be continued beyond this.
The Finnish Racketlon Federation, with the full support of the FIR, have decided that we cannot now wait until the next announcement on January 31. This would just leave things far too little time to organise the tournament and for players to organise their travel. It also seems unlikely that the restrictions will be lifted on January 31.
Many thanks to Poku Salo and the Finnish Racketlon Federation for all their work in re-establishing the Finnish Open at this new time of year with a brand new sponsor. We all hope that we will soon be able to return to Helsinki, one of the original spiritual homes of Racketlon, to experience the brand new RSL Finnish Open in the near future.
