Prague to Host World Doubles Championship in November

After the recent disappointment of the cancellation of the World Championships (singles, doubles and teams) in Austria this August, the FIR has been working hard to try and re-schedule some parts of the world championships for later this year. While covid restrictions are still causing a lot of potential problems for our planned tournaments over this summer (more updates on this soon), there is now an increasing optimism that we should be able to hold several tournaments in the last quarter of the year.

World Doubles Championships Confirmed in Prague

So we are very excited to reveal that the 2021 World Doubles Championship has now been re-scheduled to take place in Prague alongside the IWT Czech Open.

Originally the Czech Open was scheduled to take place on November 12-14 but this has now been moved a week later to November 18-21 to incorporate the World Doubles Championship. The World Doubles will be played on 18th and 19th November, with the IWT Czech Open on 20th and 21st November.

Prague hosting the World Doubles Championship has been a long time coming. In 2020 the World Doubles Championships were supposed to be held in the Czech capital. Unfortunately, as with most FIR World Tour events, it was cancelled. Now, almost 18 months after originally scheduled, the World Doubles Championships will finally head to Prague.

This is a historic moment for the Czech Racketlon Association as it hosts a racketlon World Championship for the first time. In 2015 the European Championships took place in Prague in spectacular fashion.

“I’m so pleased we’ve been able to work alongside the Czech Racketlon Association to deliver a World Doubles Championship this November. After such a difficult 12 months, we are now optimistic that the vaccine roll-out combined with realistic plans to gradually re-start international travel through the summer, will mean a Doubles World Champs in November is a realistic target…and something the Racketlon community can really look forward to.  I know that with Svatopluk Rejthar , we have one of our most experienced tournament directors leading the organising team, so the championships are in great hands in what will no doubt be a fantastic event in Prague!”

“We are in constant contact with all our tournament directors and local health authorities about the ever-changing situation regarding COVID-19 and the lifting of travel restrictions, so will continue to provide regular updates on all our planned world tour tournaments throughout the year. ”  FIR President Duncan Stahl.

More detailed player information about the Doubles World Championships & IWT Czech Open: tournament schedule, covid prevention plan, travel & accommodation options, categories etc, will all be released closer to the tournament.

The FIR is also working hard behind the scenes to reschedule the World Singles Championships to a venue later in the year. We hope to have some updates on this soon.
