Many players’ favourite tournament of the year, the Club La Santa Open (12th-14th December) is still on the calendar and the online registration is open. The tournament is set to go ahead as planned. The only thing that can cancel it is either the Spanish or Danish authorities.
It was decided by Club La Santa that they will open again on 1st December. However, if the Danish authorities do not allow people to travel to the Canary Islands at this time this may be extended, and the tournament cancelled. Danes are approximately 75% of Club La Santa’s customers each season.
Should the tournament be cancelled due to Club La Santa not being open, all apartments will naturally be refunded. However, I urge you to be smart when booking your travels to Lanzarote. Make sure you get your tickets refunded or exchanged when booking should the worst happen. As we have all learned there are no guarantees in 2020.
For a racketlon event during a pandemic, Club La Santa’s isolation from the outside is perfect. All sports facilities are located within the gates of the hotel and only guests of the club can use them. Face masks must always be worn around the venue, except for when on court playing or places where it’s explicitly allowed.
For the racket sports specifically, table tennis and badminton are played inside the big South Hall with plenty of space to social distance. At the squash courts, due to the limited space, there will be a maximum of 3 people allowed inside the hall besides the four players being on the two courts. On the tennis courts outside there is also a lot of space for social distancing. More information on the safety measures of Club La Santa can be found here.
Early Bird Discount
This year Club La Santa has given all participants the chance for a 40% discount on the accommodation if staying for a minimum of one week. This is completely unrelated to the COVID situation and was negotiated with Tournament Director Kresten Hougaard in the fall of 2019.
The discount is available to anyone who books before 31st October and is on the newly renovated Comfort 1 bedrooms, putting the price per night to 81-98.4 euros per apartment. This can house up to 3 adults and 1 child. As always, all 50+ sports activities are included in the stay at no further cost. So you can play as much racket sports – including padel – as you please.
Disclaimer
The tournament organizers and Club La Santa are not responsible for any flight expenses that may occur should the tournament not go ahead as planned. Refunds on the apartments will be provided. For further refund policies, please contact Club La Santa directly.
We will follow all the necessary guidelines set by the local authorities and by Club La Santa, however, participation is at the players’ own risk.
Further information about the tournament is available here.
Hope to see many of you at Club La Santa for the last tournament in 2020.
