After last years comeback of Bulgarian Open on the FIR World Tour, for the first time in history Doubles and Teams World Championships in Racketlon will be held in Sofia from the 12th to 15th of July this year. The event will be held at the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski”, in a brand new complex, where the Squash courts and the main hall were only built one year ago. Tennis will be played outdoor on clay and one of the three tournament hotels is walking distance away. “Very good conditions”, says FIR-Executive President Marcel Weigl, who expects a Racketlon boost in the surrendering countries thanks to Tournament Director and President of the Bugarian Racketlon Federation, Puzant Kassabian. Senior Woman added to team
After the experiences in Italy last year, the time schedule has changed slightly, with all nationalteam competitions not starting before Saturday, while all Elite Doubles are played Thursday and Friday. The size and modus of the Elite and Junior (u21) teams stays the same, but an important change has taken place in the Seniors (+45) competition, where from this year one Senior Woman is added. Participation is permitted for all FIR member countries as well as new potential FIR member countries which have never taken part at World Championships for teams.
World Champs application deadline 31st March
After the big competition for the Single World Champs 2012 between London, Zürich and Stockholm, who won in the end, FIR members requested an earlier entry deadline for World Champs in order to make a planning for these most important FIR events possible. FIR Council has thus decided to set the first entry deadline for the Single as well as the Doubles & Teams World Champs 2013, 2014 and 2015 to 31st of March 2012. This means any countries applying by that deadline will be allocated the World Champs already at the next Council Meeting during Czech Open in April this year.
