Finnish Open was one of only four tournaments on the first ever FIR World Tour 2002. The International World Tour event will be held in Kainuainen from 5 – 7 October and for the first time the winner will not be Mikko Kärkkäinen or Magnus Eliasson. While Eliasson is officially retired the furture of Kärkkäinen after his baby break together with Michaela Björnstrom is still unclear. All draws and the time schedule are now online on www.resultreporter.com
Friday is doubles day
The tournament starts on Friday with the men doubles were Björkryd and Wall are topseeded and look like the clear favourites for victory. Hasmats/Rickan are seeded on two, but might have troubles in the semis with Marjamäki/Söderlund. With Vollmeier and King a Swiss mixed double is also on the start list.
Finnish Swedish battle in round one
A similar situation occurs in the men singles draw, where Björkryd is topseeded. The Swede faces national team player Olli Marjamäki in the opening match. On position two is home court player Ismo Rönkkö, with a difficult draw meeting Christian Wall in the first round already. The winner of these two matches have good chances for the title. The only non-scandinavian player in the draw is Michael Gersdorf, who is also topseeded in the men seniors (+45) class.
