Krenn/Dickert dominate Austrian Open

Krenn wins his "own" tournament NOVOMATIC Austrian Open (7-9 Sept.) after a final victory over countryman Michael Dickert in the men elite final. The two Austrians also take the men doubles title together. World champion Zuzana Kubanova takes yet another title in woman singles, while Lieselot de Bleeckere and Isabelle Tyyrell win the women doubles draw. Mixed doubles winners trophies were taken home by Thorsten Deck and Nathalie Zeoli. All results and endpositions are now online on www.resultreporter.com. Videos on www.flowing.at/racketlontv

First rivals, then friends

In the 24-player men elite draw the four topseeds made it to the semifinals pretty safely. The only more or less close quarterfinal was Kasper Jonsson versus Michi Dickert. The Austrian than challenged countryman Joey Schubert and after an even match decided his victory with an impressing Tennis set (21:9). The other semi between Stefan Adamsson and Christoph Krenn was also decided in Tennis. The Swede won the first three sets, but then got the beating in Tennis (7:21) to lose by a total of only two points. In the all Austrian final (which was cut for national TV), Krenn evened his next Super World Tour title with his first ever victory in Tabletennis over Dickert. After defeats in Badminton and Squash it was again the Tennis which saved the day of the world number one. Only an hour later the two rivals Krenn/Dickert became friends again and secured their next Super World Tour title in men doubles, thrashing Deck/Nandori.

Women share titles

It is only a question of time until Zuzana Kubanova will become the new number one in world Racketlon. To easy were the victories over strong Isabelle Tyrrell in the quarters and even world number one Nathalie Zeoli in the semis. On the bottom half of the draw unseeded Christine Seehofer was the player of the tournament taking out the seeds Lieselot de Bleeckere and Simone Seitz to reach the final, where Kubanova showed the only 17-year-old that she might be the hope of the future but still has some limitations especially in Badminton and Squash. The women though were friendly at Austrian Open and decided to share the titles, with Zeoli taking mixed gold on the side of Thorsten Deck beating Tyrrell/Weigl in the final. This was no reason to cry for the English girl, who already walked the top of the podium with Lieselot de Bleeckere in women doubles.

Austrian Open with 4 junior draws

As the only tournament on the FIR World Tour so far, no less than four junior draws were played in Wr. Neudorf. The youngest class (u13) was won by Alex Gersdorf with only 11-year-old Linda Rohrer taking second place. One age class higher (u16) it was another German victory, by Raphael Leibig, who’s sister Sarina won both the women B and the u21 girls draw with a final victory over no one else but elite semifinalist Christine Seehofer. It was Lukas Windischberger who took the only Austrian juniors title (u21).

All Czech and Hungarian seniors finals

In an all Czech final Rudy Krajc beat Zdenek Devaty in seniors (+60), while Peter Sakovics defeated Zoltan Albert in an all Hungarian Seniors (+45) final. The two also won the seniors doubles (+45) draw.  Another Hungarian title was taken by Zsolt Szalay on men b – advanced with a victory over Slovenian Primoz Gajsek. Men C – Amateure went to German Michael Grimm, as did Men D – Beginner to Alexander Kaess. Finally the Men B  Amateur doubles draw stayed in Austria, with Schifko/Klement on top of the podium.

Tabletennis show with Norbert Stolicki

Norbert Stolicki did not only play the only gummiarm in the men elite draw, beating wildcard player Stelian Stankov in the first round, the Pole was also responsible for yet another highlight. In an amazing Tabletennis Charity Showmatch for school children in Ghana challenged Austrian Olympic participant 2012 (9th place in singles) and defence specialist Chen Weixing.
