Schubert youngest title winner ever
It seems that Joey Schubert has developed to one of the very best Squash players on the FIR Racketlon World Tour, which gave him the basis for his first World Tour victory at the Czech Open. His Squash sets were just outstanding: 21:10 with Rykovski, 21:5 with Krenn and 21:6 with Manners. With all the other three sports having improved too the Austrian had consistent wins to reach the final against Jermaine Manners were he surprised everyone by even winning the Badminton set. The only 19-year-old now is the youngest Racketlon player ever to win a World Tour title in Elite singles. Apart from Schuberts victory the elite draw had little surprises to offer, expect maybe the semifinal place of Norbert Stolicki, who beat Alexander Köpf in the quarters. World Champion Christoph Krenn had to be satisfied with the bronze medal this time.
Czech girls take Women titles
In the Women elite draw current world number one had to be happy to even get into the draw, after having missed the entry deadline. Once in she made no doubt who will win the tournament in her home country, the final against Silke Altmann was over before Tennis. Third place went to yet another strong polish girl, Magda Kaminska beat Swedish Open winner Kerstin Peckl before Tennis too. In Women B it was yet another Czech victory by newcomer Dominika Koukalova.
Topseeded win Doubles
Both in Mixed Doubles and Men Doubles the topseeded titles take the titles. While this was no surprise in Mixed, where Vesely/Sodomkova had little problems in the final with Altmann/Neidhardt, it was another story in Men Doubles where polish topseeded Samonek/Stolicki surprised with a two point victory in the semis over Schubert/Krenn. In the final they outcasted Vesely/Manners, who surprised with a two point victory too over Köpf/Weigl in the semis. In Women Doubles the number one seeds Sodomkova/Seifert got to the final, where they lost with Hungarians Hrabina/Horvath by one single point.
Germans best Men B and C
World number one Peter Sakovics wins the Seniors 45+, where countryman Tamas Marko surprisingly reached the final. In Seniors 55+ it was yet another victory for homeplayer Jaroslav Schwan and Swiss Graham King on place three. Two more Czechs Fiedler/Kolar won the Seniors +45 Doubles competition. Men B and Men C was won by the Germans Christian Wiessner and Werner Seel, while the Austrian Lukas Trojan took the u21 title.
Czech plans for 2011
Once again the Czech Open in the hotel and sportscentre STEP with around 150 players from 18 countries was perfectly organised and except that all draws were gone due to a computer hacker attack the evening before tournament start, everything went very well. Once again the improvement with players scanning their own results into the resultreporter was well appreciated by the tournament organisation and all participants. For 2011 Tournament Director Svata Rejthar already has new plans, with the Tabletennis Centre Court in the Bar area and three fixed Badminton courts in order to win two additional Tennis courts. “In the name of FIR I apologize for the problem with the draws and thank Czech Open organisation for a great tournament”, says FIR-president Marcel Weigl and praises the tournament in Prague as a role model in the category of International World Tour events.
