ALWIN KRIST WINS DRONTEN CHALLENGER
Last weekend (30.10 – 1.11.) the second edition of the WILSON Racketlon Challenger took place in Dronten/Netherlands. and ended with a surprise. Alwin Krist upsets number one seed and top favorite Bart Beks by beating him before tennis. The Women Elite was won as expected by Karin Geertsma with her win over Joyce Crouse in the final.
From 13:13 to 21:13 in Squash
Bart Beks being a potential top 10 player in Racketlon, which he already proved by beating some top 10 players and winning the Belgian open needs most matches to get into tennis to win his match. Bart lost last two matches 5 points in tennis to Alwin, so Alwin knew he had to beat Bart with the biggest possible difference in badminton and squash. Bart won table tennis with 22-20, Alwin won badminton with 5 so he had to keep Bart below 14 points in squash to win before tennis. It seemed that it was not going to work for Alwin until 13-13, but then he played his best Racketlon Squash ever by changing his game to a lower pace and won in a couple of minutes with 21-13 : game, set and matrch !
Tournament Director satisfied
The tournament had a reasonable number of (foreign) players who wanted to test themselves before the Wold Champs which are held within three weeks in Hannover. Also 17 local players participated in the tournament. Local hero Jurgen Haan was the most successfull with winning the men B. Jurgen plays also in the World Champs in the C category. Venue owner and organiser Thony Schwab was very satisfied with the tournament as were the players with the excellent service of Thony's staff. Next year he want to level up the price money top attract some top 10 players and to get the number of participants around the 100.
