REID WITH GLORIOUS SCOTTISH OPEN HOME VICTORY

Calum Reid has finally comeback in singles too. The top Scot wins Scottish Open in Edinburgh (25-27.9) with two glorious victories over topseeded players from Austria Michael Dickert in the semi and Christoph Krenn in the final. English victory on the Womens side, with Natalie Lawrence outcasting tournament director Katy Buchanan in the final. Lawrence wins British Battle

English number one Natalie Lawrence had little problems to defend her title marching through to the final, where tournament director Katy Buchanan was pretty tired from the exhausting weekend, but at least won two sets: Tabletennis and Squash. The bronze medal went to England too, with Jane Cook beating co-tournament director Pernille Thomson in the final. Women Amateur victory stayed in Scottish hands, with newcomer Jacquie Edwards on the top of the podium.

Reid defeats both Austrians for 2nd victory

Calum Reid started unseeded into his home tournament. In the end he took his second victory at Scottish Open. After his long injury out, the top Scot is now finally back, with two glorious victories over the topseeded Austrians Michael Dickert in the semifinal and Christoph Krenn in the final. Reid proved once again that he is one of the best allrounders by winning Badminton, Squash and Tennis against Dickert and Tabletennis, Badminton and Squash against Krenn. In the final the Scot only needed 9 points in Tennis, which he proved he can play too. At 10:9 for Krenn the Second Scottish Open home victory after 2006 was perfect.

Hakansson proves nerves against Manners

Third place went to Michael Dickert, who beat Henrik Hakansson easily in the play-off for third place. The Swede hat his best match against three seeded Jermain Manners, where he kept his nerves after interesting scores (TT 21:4, BA 4:21, SQ 7:21) and won the Tennis match by the gummiarm point with 22:7. Both wildcard players proved they deserved to be in the Elite draw too, with Ă–rjan Lundberg ending up 5th followed by Emil Bergander on 6th position.

Thomson ready for Worlds

In the everlasting close encounter Sach against Sakovics in the Seniors (45+) competition the final victory this time went to Volker Sach, who needed 14 points in Tennis and the final was over at 19:14 against the German. The Hungarian was lucky though to win his semifinal match against Scottish local matador Steve Thomson, who just turned 45 this year and only lost in the gummiarm point to Sakovics. “I want a medal at the Worlds”, says the young Scot who ended up Third in Edinburgh. Men B – Advanced and Men C – Amateur victories went to England though. Simon May and Robert Sampson may also call themselves Scottish Open winners.

Scotland is back!

Most importantly Scotland is finally back after this weekend. President Phil Reid and tournament director Katy Buchanan were so overwhelmed by the huge success of the biggest Scottish Open ever and the congratulations especially by the foreign players to the great sports centre and tournament, that they decided on a short notice they will organise another World Tour event 2010 at David Lloyd in Edinburgh. FIR has granted the Scots one more week to give the final date. Buchanan/Reid also promised Scotland will start with a nationalteam at the Worlds in Germany this year again. What a comeback!
