Jezler with 2nd World Tour title
Stefan Jezler from Brüttisellen is the first swiss who succeeded in winning the Swiss Open in Zurich-Schlieren. In the final, Jezler, Nr. 15 in the world, played against topseeded and world Nr. 6, Alexander Köpf from Germany. Jezler won his 2nd FIR World Tour Tournament after Hungarian Open in February. But winning at home, in front of his home audience, was a very special feeling for him, he said. In Table Tennis, one of Jezlers main discipline, he won after some starting problems at the end with 21:8. In Badminton he lost 18:21. In Squash, which is the main discipline of Köpf, Jezler played very well and made 17 points. Both played so hard, that both had a destroyed racket in the end. But it also was a very fair duel. Jezler still lead by 6 points after three disciplines and as a very good tennis player now he was the favourite. But also Köpf plays Tennis very well and the final ended with a tennis game on very high level. Jezler lead by several points from the beginning and soon he could be pretty sure, that he will be the winner of this tournament. By the score of 15:13 for Jezler, Köpf made a double foult in his service and with 16 points Jezler was the happy winner.
Big surprise by Bosselmann
The game for 3rd place in the Men A Elite Category ended with a 20:22, 4:21, 21:4, 21:15 win for Lars Bosselmann from Germany against compatriot Oliver Kudicke. It was a major surprise after a strong comeback tournament of Oliver Kudicke, who was out with a back injury for over a year. In the first round he beat Petr Vesely seeded player Petr Vesely by one single point. On the other side Bosselmann never played in the Elite class yet, but had some nice victories in the Men B class. With a bronze medal, he must now even be considered for the German national team. The 2nd swiss who played at the home tournament in the Elite Category, tournament director Nico Hobi, became 10th.
Silke Altmann defends her title
In the Women A Elite Category the winner was like last year Silke Altmann from Germany. She won all her five games. The game against 2nd Katharina Sodomkova (CZE) ended 21:9, 21:10, 21:9, 17:21 for the favourite and Nr. 4 in the world, Silke Altmann. Irene Seifert ended up Third.
Peter Sakovics is back
In the Category Veterans O45, in a very international field, topseeded Volker Sach (GER) lost his semifinal against compatriot Christian Alte. Alte played the final against Peter Sakovics from Hungary. After three disciplines Alte leaded by 8 points. But Sakovics turned over the game in tennis. Sakovics won with 21:11, 11:21, 13:21, 21:9. The Hungarian already promised a week ago “I know how I can beat Alte”, and he kept his word.
First ever Doubles to Kudicke/Köpf
For the first time there also was a double tournament at the Swiss Open. Alexander Köpf/Oliver Kudicke (GER) won the final against Stefan Jezler/Marco Deeg (SUI/GER) who had to retire because of an allergic reaction from Marco Deeg. He had to stop playing after table tennis and badminton.
30 Courts, No waiting time
Beside that everything went well at the tournament. No injurys, no waiting times thanks to over 30 courts, referees in every elite game on the center courts. The players were happy to have a free massage on Saturday and Sunday. They also ate kilograms of free spaghetti and some of the players had enough energy to join the players party in a karaoke bar on Saturday evening.
